Thus, the engine management has precise information which group of cylinders to fire, and which group of injectors to spray. The crankshaft position sensor is sensing the movement of two radially opposed position plates on the flywheel, one of which is magnetized, and the other is not. Cylinders are fired in pairs (dual fire) - 1 and 4 together, and 2 and 3 together. It uses 2 ignition coils and no ignition distributor. Injectors work in pairs (idle, part load), or altogether (full-load). It is a speed-density type of system, as mixture formation is dependent on RPM, TPS angle, and manifold pressure (MAP). Unlike the 102, 103, and early 104 series engines, the engine did not use mechanical fuel injection but the Siemens PEC/PMS (Pressure Engine Control) management system, which integrates fuel and spark management. Starting with 1996 it has a variant called the M111.921 which has a MAF (Mass Air Flow)-sensor instead of MAP-sensor on the first one, and using ECU instead of PMS. All engines in the family use a cast iron engine block and aluminum alloy cylinder head. Debuted in the 1992 Mercedes-Benz E-Class ( W124), this engine family is relatively oversquare and uses 4 valves per cylinder. The M111 engine family is a straight-4 automobile engine from Mercedes-Benz, produced from 1992 to 2003. Thanks for your time looking into this post and any responses.Motor vehicle engine Mercedes-Benz M111 engine My question is, Can I get a second hand ECU from ML270 CDI cars which are used for breaking and reprogramme it? Just wanted to check with you experts out there about the options available to me.Īlso curious to understand what might have happened to car in these activities. It is bit more expensive if I take it to Mercedes dealer I found. He removed the ECU and sent it to test somewhere who told him that ECU is faulty and beyond repair.Įlectrical guy tells me that a new ECU to be purchased from same company and reprogrammed for the car and it is expensive as I see it. He checked the error codes and told DAS module is not a problem hence he wanted to get ECU out for testing. He did several tests which I'd not understand. I got electrical guy, he connected his computer running mercedes software and removed my two keys from programme and readded them to no success. Next day morning, I tried to start the car and I got "start error" message on dash board. Mechanic started the car with jump start unit and left the car running for an hour to charge the battery. I had faulty alternator a less than a year before which I had it replaced with refurbished one hence under warranty so got another refurbished one and got it fitted by mechanic. got a mechanic to check it and it turns out alternator not working (identified by elimination rule). I had flat battery took to battery guys and they said battery has seen its good days so replaced it with new.Īfter 2 days of running fine, car won't start again. I have problem with my car and auto electrical guy tells me it is ECU.
